About Richmond Dog Walks

Richmond Dog Walks is an independent guide to the best places to walk dogs in Richmond, VA: trails, parks, neighborhoods, tips, and local dog walkers.

Richmond Dog Walks is an independent community guide to walking dogs in Richmond, Virginia. No booking platform, no gig app, no service fees. Just an honest guide to the trails, parks, neighborhoods, and local dog walkers that make Richmond one of the better cities in the country to own a dog.

What We Cover

The guide is organized into four areas:

Trails and Parks: Detailed guides to Richmond’s best outdoor spots for dogs, from the James River trail network to Forest Hill Park to Pocahontas State Park. We note leash rules, surface conditions, parking, and what to expect in different seasons and weather.

Neighborhoods: Walking conditions vary a lot across Richmond’s 20-plus distinct neighborhoods. A Fan walk and a Church Hill walk are completely different experiences. We cover 21 neighborhoods with honest notes on routes, sidewalk quality, and what makes each one worth exploring with a dog.

Dog Walking Tips: Practical guides for Richmond dog owners: how to handle the city’s brutal summer heat, tick and flea prevention timed to Virginia’s seasons, walking a reactive dog on busy sidewalks, what to bring on a long trail outing.

Dog Walker Directory: A vetted list of professional dog walkers and pet sitters serving Richmond. We cover what makes each one a good fit for different owners, not just a list of names.

Why We Built This

Richmond has a lot of great spots for dogs. Finding them, knowing the rules, understanding the conditions, that takes time. We did that work so you don’t have to start from scratch.

If you know a spot we should add, contact us. We update the guides regularly.
